Chapter: 1412
An elderly gentleman with a walking stick and a cloak appeared out of nowhere. Joey dropped the tablet and exited the room as soon as he saw the guy.
When Hector arrived at the front gate of the Bennet family's home, he found Joey already standing inside.
"Wow! You're an early riser. I thought I would have to wait for a long time." Hector grinned at Joey.
Joey pursed his lips but kept quiet. Hector's hand caught his attention. He had something in his hand.
Hector stepped forward and extended the item in his hand to him.
“While walking down the street, I came across a guy peddling soybean milk. It's a chilly day. I purchased two cups when I spotted him standing by himself on the street. Give it a go, little boy."
Soybean milk purchased at a roadside stand?
He hadn't had breakfast and here was some soybean milk. He had previously gone on a trip with his parents on the food street, where they purchased food from the booths. But he suffered from diarrhea the next day. The street cuisine left him with a negative impression.
He didn't reach out to take the soybean milk.
"It's very delicious," Hector said after seeing that he did not extend his hand.
Joey gave him a quick look before reaching out for the soybean milk.
The warmth of the soybean milk penetrated the thin plastic bag and into his palm. It was warm, but not hot.
"Try it out. When chilled, the flavor diminishes significantly,"
Hector said.
Joey looked at him and then turned to the soybean milk. He had to agree that it smelt pleasant, but he was still apprehensive about the possibility of diarrhea.
However, when his eyes met Hector's, he regained his compassion and took a sip of his drink.
The mild flavor of the soybean milk remained on his tongue. When he ingested it, he felt a warm sensation across his abdomen.
"Your thoughts? Is it good?" Hector resembled a youngster who yearned for praise. He didn't look or act anything like the renowned police officer.
Joey even wondered if maybe he had confused him with someone else for a brief second.
"It's good." He then drank once again.
Hector knew the boy was stubborn, and he did not get mad.
"Next time,
I'll get it for you too."
Joey did not recall an essential detail until he heard that Hector would be returning. He regarded Hector and questioned, “What brings you here? Why did you want my presence at the gate this morning?"
“I'd love to express my gratitude."
