Chapter: 1420
"You'll never regret it, kid. If you agree to be my apprentice, I will teach you everything as long as it's not against the law. What do you think?" Hector sounded so excited and hopeful.
“I don't want anything," Joey said, grinning.
The boy's smile might appear innocent, but the look in his eyes said otherwise. Hector had a feeling that he was falling into a big trap.
Though hesitating, Hector asked, "Then what do you want?"
“Teach me how to shoot."
"No way! I don't even need to think about it. You're too young to use a gun! Find something else!" Hector said in a firm tone.
Joey spread out his hands and shrugged.
"Since you don't agree with what I want, you can forget it!"
With that, Joey turned around to leave without giving Hector the chance to say anything.
“Wait, wait!" Hector shouted.
"Yes, Mr. Brown. What can I do for you?" Joey stopped and asked above his shoulders.
“You know what? I'm going back to sleep. After all, I'm still a young boy and I need enough sleep. I'm not like you.
You can sleep for only a few hours."
Joey's tone sounded innocent, but Hector knew the child too well to take his words as innocently as they sounded.
Frustrated and angry, he rubbed his nose and asked, "So, you're determined to learn shooting?"
Joey didn't answer his question. He turned around and faced Hector with a raised eyebrow. His answer was pretty obvious.
Hector sighed and rubbed his knitted eyebrows.
"You're still so young.
Why do you want to learn such a dangerous thing?"
"I like it."
"What?" Hector stooped to Joey's level, ready to tell him the dangers of playing with guns. Hopefully, it was going to change the child's mind.
"That's not the type of thing you should fancy. Do you know-"
"Mr. Brown!"
Hector swallowed the rest of his words as Joey interrupted him.
As he looked into the boy's eyes, Hector realized that there was nothing he could say that was going to change his mind.
