Chapter: 1425
He was so focused on deciding the next thing to do that he didn't notice that Rachel also had her eyes glued to the screen.
Using fake files was common in the hacking world, but it was rare that the files would self-destruct after three failed tries.
Even in the Red Hackers, probably not many knew such a tactic.
Who on earth stole the files and blueprints?
Rachel's eyes darkened. The code index she had seen earlier as she searched for the files looked familiar to her.
Wallace hurled the mouse off the table, and it fell to the floor with a thud.
Rachel looked away and took a sip of the water nonchalantly.
Seeing Rachel still calm and seemingly unbothered, Wallace got even more frustrated. He didn't know what to believe now.
On the one hand, he suspected Rachel was lying to extort more money from him. As far as he was concerned, self-destructing fake files didn't exist because he had never heard of such a thing before. On the other hand, Rachel's confidence in her words told him that she might be telling the truth, and he was unaware of that hacking until now.
"You have other ways to find out, right?" Wallace asked.
"Yes, but it's only at a fifteen percent success probability," Rachel answered.
Wallace grimaced.
"You mean this is the better option? We will depend on luck to find the original files and make sure the packet doesn't self-destruct? Are you kidding me? I didn't pay you to listen to this! You said you could help me get the files back! Can you do it or not?"
His tone was hostile.
Wallace clenched his fists, trying to control his emotions.
At that moment, his phone rang.
He took a deep breath and picked it up. A message from Odin popped up on the screen. It contained nothing but a question mark.
Wallace's grip on his phone tightened. He knew the message meant Odin was getting impatient.
Once Odin ran out of patience, Wallace would be dead meat. The memories of his dark days in the international prison suddenly flashed in Wallace's mind, immediately sending shivers down his back.
He turned to Rachel. She was his only chance.
“What do you want? Money? I can promise you twice the reward."
Giving in to the pressure, Wallace conceded to Rachel.
"Not enough, right? What about thrice the price? Or quad—"
“Are those files and blueprints that important to you?" Rachel interrupted him.
Important?
