Chapter: 1621
"Thank you for sharing this with me. Farewell, Shelia."
With that, he left.
Rachel watched his retreating figure, her eyelashes fluttering and her eyes growing serious.
In the end, she still lied to Roger.
The sun was already up, but dark clouds covered the sky. It was chilly outside, as if the whole city was shrouded with cold mist.
“I'm sorry.”
Rachel's eyes shot open when the familiar deep voice rang in her ears. Clasping the blanket tightly, she sat on the bed and adjusted her vision.
Her grip on the blanket loosened when her eyesight cleared, realizing she was in her room. She turned her head to the window and gazed out pensively.
She had a dream.
In her dream, she and Victor were kids, and they seemed to have gotten lost in the forest. Before them was the bonfire they tried hard to make, on which they roasted the wolf meat. He sat beside her with his pale face while she wore a gleeful smile despite the dirt on her cheeks from lighting the fire.
When she gave the roasted meat to Victor, she heard him utter an apology.
Shelia didn't know why he was sorry and was about to respond when
Victor suddenly turned into a grown man. She could see from her reflection in his eyes that she was now Rachel.
As dark clouds shrouded the sky, the forest around them slowly changed into a different place.
When Rachel looked down, she was no longer holding the roasted meat but an umbrella covering her head from the heavy rain. She was standing in front of a gravestone, with the people around her whispering, "I'm sorry for your loss."
Rachel cast her gaze at the gravestone before her.
Carved across the drenched marble was Victor's name.
Returning to her senses, Rachel pursed her lips into a straight line.
She lifted the blanket, and the cold air brushed against her skin, waking her up. With the drowsiness gone, the pain in her heart became clear. It felt like it was going to shatter at any moment.
She usually didn't think of how much she had changed over the past months unless something or someone would trigger the memory, like this time.
When Victor died, he took all her feelings with him. She used to detest the man, but even that disappeared when he passed.
All of a sudden, the things she used to care so much about had become unimportant.
The changes were hard to face, but she had to move forward.
The problem at hand still needed to be solved.
After washing up, Rachel planned to meet with Odin to talk about his marriage proposal.
