Chapter: 1819
“I used to have a soft spot for them. Rachel raised her eyebrows.

“But I eventually grew tired of them."

"Why?" Mason couldn't resist asking. "I'm sorry. You don't have to answer that if you'd rather not."

"It's alright." Rachel smiled, eyeing the clusters of red roses. She cast her thoughts back to six years ago when she used to happily pick out roses, daydreaming about clutching the most stunning bouquet at her wedding. "Feels like I've suddenly matured and changed. I got weary of everything I once liked, including roses."

Hearing this, Mason glimpsed a hint of sorrow in Rachel's eyes.

It seemed Alberto had deeply hurt her in the past, and winning her heart back would be an arduous journey.

At that moment, Alberto, waiting at a distance, caught wind of their conversation.

Alberto's gaze grew intense as he stared at the red roses. After a moment, he guided the wheelchair back into the house.

Mason guided Rachel into Alberto's quarters.

Upon entering the patio, Rachel was greeted by a delightful smell.

“What's that smell? It smells so good.”

“Miss Bennet, you've come at the perfect time. Dinner is ready.

Please, join us for the meal," Mason offered.

Rachel checked her phone for the time. It was half past six in the evening, just the right time for dinner. Declining Mason's invitation seemed impolite, so she agreed with a nod.

"We have a light meal prepared tonight. Is that fine with you? If you prefer something else, just let me know. I can have it made for you."

Rachel smiled. “That's perfectly fine."

As they were talking, they made their way into the house.

“Mr. Gibson, Miss Bennet has arrived." With his cane in hand, Mason walked towards Alberto. As he drew near, he felt the chill coming from him and understood something.

Had Alberto overheard their earlier conversation outside?

"Good." Alberto turned his wheelchair to face Rachel and greeted her.

"You're here."

"Sorry for being a bit late." She felt a bit awkward about arriving around dinnertime.

Alberto's gaze held her for a brief moment, then he said, "No worries."

Sensing the need to give them space, Mason prepared to leave. But first, he stopped by Rachel. "Miss Bennet, I need your assistance with something."
