Chapter: 1834
Dewey, visibly exhausted from assisting Alberto, managed to greet her breathlessly. "Good morning, Miss Bennet."
“Good morning. Rachel's eyes were busy inspecting Alberto as she spoke.
He had visibly improved and looked way better than he did a couple of days ago. When their eyes met, he squinted and averted his gaze.
Still feeling her eyes on him, he swallowed hard and muttered, “Good morning."
This murmur that could hardly pass as a greeting somehow made Rachel smile so sweetly.
“Miss Bennet, headed to the office already? Isn't it quite early?"
Dewey inquired politely.
"I've got a lot on my plate that requires my urgent attention. I have to rush there and take care of them."
"I could drop you off, then."
Rachel shook her head and said, "You don't have to bother with that.
I can manage. It's just a stone throw away and the walk is good for me." After saying that, she turned to face Alberto and asked, “Mr. Gibson, what are your plan for the day? Will you be taking the day off? Or do you plan to go to the office?"
He replied, "I'll stay indoors today."
"Right. That's great," Rachel responded before pausing to Look at her watch, Seeing that she was already running out of time, she concluded, "I've got to run along now. Enjoy your day off, Mr. Gibson."
With that, she descended the stairs, ready to leave.
Alberto's subtle nod signaled Dewey into action.
In a hurried pursuit, he called after her. "Miss Bennet, wait a minute."
“Is everything alright?"
“Please have this." Dewey handed her an insulated lunch bag, weighty with food. "You haven't had breakfast, have you? Mr. Gibson had the chef whip up something for you."
Surprised and touched by the unexpected gesture, Rachel inquired, "The chef?"
Dewey affirmed, disclosing that Alberto had returned late the previous day and stayed at the Gibson Mansion.
Eyeballing the lunch bag and stealing a glance at Alberto, Rachel seized the moment, asking Dewey, “How has Mr. Gibson been lately?"
Perplexed by the sudden curiosity, Dewey replied, “He's fine. Why do you ask?"
“He seemed uncomfortable in his legs the night he left Apliaria." In truth, Rachel was fishing for confirmation on whether or not her impromptu massage had made any difference.
The revelation left Dewey wondering.
