Chapter: 1844
He was their knight in shining armor, and they were his guardian angels.
But Alberto refused to dwell in the past for too long. He squinted at Dewey and asked, “Has Ivan come?"
“Yeah, he's been waiting downstairs for quite some time."
Alberto gave a nod, then settled into his wheelchair and donned his mask. “Let's roll."
Dewey pushed him down to the first floor and into the living room.
Ivan stood up from the sofa at the sound of their arrival.
“Mr. Gibson, Mr. Duffy," he greeted them respectfully.
He sported a sharp suit and polished Leather shoes, but his eyes betrayed a hint of weariness.
Alberto acknowledged him with a nod. Dewey secured the wheelchair and smiled at the man. “Mr. Chavez, I've heard plenty about you. My apologies for the wait.”
Ivan responded politely, "No worries. I've only been waiting for a few minutes. Plus, if Mr. Gibson wants to see me, there's got to be something he needs my help with. Waiting a tad longer isn't a bother."
Dewey poured Ivan a cup of coffee and made himself scarce, leaving the two men alone.
Sipping his coffee, Ivan glanced at Alberto from the corner of his eye. Something had been gnawing at him. Why had Alberto sought him out?
Suddenly, he recalled Sullivan Group's morning press conference. Was this about the project?
“How's life treating you over at Sullivan Group?" Alberto asked, staring at Ivan.
Ivan took a moment to process, then answered in a businesslike tone, “Can't complain."
"Is that so? But I heard you were thinking of jumping ship from Sullivan Group," Alberto said.
Ivan was taken aback. His resignation plans weren't common knowledge.
How did Alberto find out? Ivan's wariness grew as he looked at the man before him.
"Mr. Gibson, I think there's been a mix-up. I'm still with Sullivan Group," he replied cautiously.
“Have you given any thought to where you'll land once you do decide to walk away?" Alberto inquired.
What was going on? Ivan was baffled. Did Alberto summon him here for small talk? What was the point of all these unnecessary questions?
Frustrated by Alberto's lack of clarity, Ivan remained on high alert, unable to discern his true intentions.
One should never harbor ill intentions towards others but should always be vigilant against the harm they might inflict.
Despite the cooperation between the Gibson family and Sullivan Group, insiders could see through the facade. There was little genuine collaboration. When Sullivan Group's poster hit the streets, it dealt a heavy blow to the Gibson family, marking the public dissolution of their partnership.
