Rachel's gaze narrowed.

“If you're so curious, go ask her in the slammer!" Averie spat, closing her eyes as she let herself fall backward.

It dawned on Rachel that Averie never intended to push her down the stairs but to frame her! But this was only the second floor. Falling wouldn't be fatal.

But then, she thought of Averie's recent retch during the dinner.

Granted, a typical person would not die from falling from the second story, but what if the fall happened to a pregnant woman? For a lady only a few months pregnant, a baby would most likely be terminated if she fell like this.
