"I'm so thirsty," Averie mumbled from her hospital bed, her eyes still closed. She had a deep frown as she said, "Water... I need water."

A wet sensation brushed against her lips, and small drops of water trickled in, easing her parched throat just a Little.

It wasn't enough. She needed more.

She struggled to open her eyes, slowly becoming aware of her surroundings. Her vision was fuzzy but she could make out someone standing next to her, gently dabbing her lips with a damp cotton swab.

“You're awake," said the person beside her, who stopped dabbing her lips and set a glass down.
