Alberto stared at the document in his hand and signed it. His pen paused on the paper, and he glanced at the mobile phone resting on the table.

Throughout the morning, his phone had remained eerily quiet—no calls, no messages.

His pen etched a word onto the signature line. He narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing his own signature. Only then did he realize that the last word he had unknowingly written was "Rachel."
