Before she could respond, her sister, idly admiring her freshly manicured nails, talked in a sarcastic tone. "My dear sister, Dad scolded you because he lost his temper. It's not entirely his fault. You've brought shame on our family. Think about how many people are mocking us now. It's no surprise that Dad was furious."

"Shame?" Aimee's voice shook. “How have I brought shame upon us? Dad, it wasn't me who was unfaithful. It was Wendell. He's the one who betrayed me. He's the one to blame."

"It's on you, Aimee. Wendell is your husband. If you can't keep him faithful, who else is there to blame?" Reproach swirled in her father's tone as he observed Aimee's tears without a shred of compassion. “If you, as his wife, fail to secure his love, the blame rests on you!"

As the accusation cut through the air, Aimee felt a chill wrap around her heart.

Incredulity painted her face as she shifted her gaze from her father to her mother, seeking an ally in her. Yet her mother appeared distant, perched on the sofa, blind to the turmoil unfolding between father and daughter.
