Although she was becoming used to Alberto's touchiness, she didn't expect him to carry her in his arms like that. Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around his neck to steady herself.

She caught a faint scent of tobacco on him at the contact. "You smoked?"

“Just one stick," Alberto replied in a deep voice, striding into the living room with her in his arms.

The tobacco smell wasn't strong, so Rachel didn't mind it much. It stuck her as odd, though, as she had never seen him lit a cigarette since they returned to Trevinia.

He sat down on the couch with her on his lap.
