"Don't worry. You're always welcome here," Rachel assured her. "Whenever you feel up to it, you can visit anytime. Once you're feeling better, I'll come over to the Gibsons' to visit you."

Kathryn's disappointment vanished instantly. She smiled and said, "Okay. I'll come to visit you often." Then, extending her hand, she initiated a pinky swear. "You promise?"

Seeing her outstretched hand, Rachel was momentarily taken aback, but quickly composed herself and linked her pinky with Kathryn's. "Yes, I promise."

After they had lunch, Kathryn said she would return to her room to pack.
