“Why are you here crying by yourself?" The boy noticed the redness rimming her eyes and the shimmer of tears when she looked at him. His gaze shifted uncomfortably from Kathryn's reddened eyes, and he avoided her gaze altogether. "You look awful when you cry.”

Upon hearing his words, Kathryn sniffed indignantly. "What's it to you if I shed a tear or two? I'm certainly not crying over you."

The boy was momentarily at a loss for words, his irritation evident. "You..." he began before huffing in exasperation and tossing a pack of tissues onto Kathryn's lap. "I'm not here to argue with you."

Kathryn gazed at the pack of tissues tossed by the boy, her mind swirling with confusion.

Was she being shown kindness by a stranger? However, his attitude left much to be desired.
