Seeing his discomfort, Emil quickly moved to his side, offering a gentle pat on the back.
"No need." The old man dismissed Emil's concern with a wave of his hand as his coughing eased. "It's just an old ailment, nothing serious. I've lived a long life; if it's my time, so be it.”
“Don't talk like that, Dad." Emil's face, usually devoid of emotion, now displayed a trace of concern. "You know I don't Like hearing you speak that way."
“Alright, I'll refrain from saying it again." The old man sighed, a hint of relief in his voice. He took Emil's hand, his rough fingers brushing the back of it as he seemed to drift into his thoughts.
