Quintin opened the door to find Rachel standing there, slightly out of breath. Despite the chill in the air, a fine sheen of sweat covered her forehead.

"Boss..." Quintin began, but was quickly interrupted by Joey, who had been absorbed in a game on his watch.

Hearing the commotion, he sprang off the bed and darted to the door, squeezing past Quintin to hug Rachel's leg tightly. "Mommy! You're here!"

Rachel's anger, which had been bubbling up inside her, dissipated the moment Joey embraced her leg. The words she had prepared to scold Quintin evaporated like morning mist.

She closed her eyes, inhaled deeply, and gently disentangled Joey's hands from her leg. Though her tone softened, it retained a firm edge. “Joe, let go first. I need to have a word with Quintin."
