"What is it?" Rachel responded, slightly taken aback. She soothed him by patting his back gently.

Joey closed his eyes, paused briefly, and then inquired in his innocent voice, “Mommy, why can you suddenly stay with me now?" After a brief hesitation, he added, "Did you and Daddy have a fight?"

Earlier that day, when Rachel arrived at the hotel, Joey couldn't help overhearing bits of conversations while playing games in his bedroom. Being perceptive, he had pieced together a basic understanding of the situation.

At his question, Rachel pursed her lips, took a moment to compose herself, and then replied, "You could say that."
