A few moments later, her breathing slowed, and the pounding in her head dulled to a manageable throb. She took a deep breath, gathered what little strength she had, and offered a weak smile to the man who had stuck around to make sure she was okay. Grateful but not wanting to prolong the interaction, she thanked him before heading toward Alberto's office.
The office wasn't far. It was just around a small park and a quick turn, and she'd be there.
But what should've been a quick ten-minute walk turned into a grueling half-hour ordeal.
She had to stop every few steps, leaning against lampposts and benches, trying to catch her breath. Each step felt like a marathon, but somehow, she made it.
Once there, she didn't head straight upstairs. Instead, she ducked into a nearby cafe.
