Chapter: 711
Joey's little lips turn into a pout and he slumped down the bed, defeated.
Victor walked to the bedside, tucked him in, and placed the back of his hand on the child's forehead. He noticed Joey was sweating, and his skin was a little cold.
"Would you like some water?" Victor asked as he withdrew his hand.
Joey shook his head. However, his lips slightly opened.
“Are you hungry?" Victor asked before he could say anything.
"No... I'm not hungry."
"I'll ask the chef to make you some porridge. After that, be sure to take your medicine." Getting back to his feet, Victor turned to leave.
Joey was anxious that Victor hadn't mentioned the press conference at all, so he quickly reached out to tug the hem of Victor's shirt.
Victor froze in his steps, looking down at Joey's tight grip. After a moment of silence, he asked, “Do you really want to come with me?"
"Yeah." Joey nodded heavily. hy?"
"Because..." Joey mumbled, his lips pursed. The words Maria had said to him earlier in the day came flooding back to him.
She told to him, “If you don't believe what I've shown you, come to the press conference tomorrow and see for yourself."
“Press conference?"
“I know you're smart, but do you think you'll be able to keep your identity hidden from Victor? Let me tell you something. Victor is already suspicious of your identity and has asked his men to investigate you."
Joey didn't seem surprised when he heard this. It would have been more surprising if Victor had no clue at all.
Because he was well aware that once they saw his face, someone would wonder who he really was.
"So, what does it have to do with the press conference tomorrow?"
Maria was taken aback when she noticed his calm expression, but she smiled again and continued, "My son is dead, and Victor, as the current leader of Sullivan Group, will have to announce that to the public. The reporters will have a field day. I've already received the news that he will not only announce my son's death but will also show something to the general public. He'll present them with proof that accuses my son of dereliction of duty and corruption while he was still alive. That's Victor's plan to appease the shareholders. If you don't believe me, wait until tomorrow to hear what he has to say.
Let's make a deal."
“What deal?"
"I'm confident I can do things to make sure Victor won't continue to doubt your identity anymore. For example, you can take the role of my son's child."
Joey frowned, thinking of the proposition.
“But you have to attend the press conference tomorrow and testify against him after he reveals your identity," Maria added.
ALL of a sudden, Joey was snapped back to reality. He clenched his hands and stared into Victor's eyes.
“Lukas told me that if I come with you, the media won't make things difficult for you. I want to help you." Joey spoke without a stutter, sure of what he wanted. He looked into Victor's eyes with determination.
