Chapter: 546
Why did Norah choose to dress so vividly after her divorce? What was she trying to convey?
Back when Derek was bedridden in a vegetative state, Norah didn't hesitate to marry him and look after him with excellent care, showing just how much she loved him with all her heart.
Even after Madeline came back, Derek still held onto his feelings for her. He decided to leave Norah and be with Madeline. While he stuck to his choice, there were moments when he wished he hadn't.
When Norah signed the divorce agreement, Derek had been hit with a wave of sadness out of nowhere.
While Derek couldn't even explain to himself the reason for the feeling, he soon pushed it into the back of his mind like he had done numerous times before.
For the past two years, Norah took care of all Derek's needs on a daily basis. He had grown accustomed to her, so her sudden departure left him feeling bereft and uncertain. When he decided to divorce Norah, he had already decided on the compensation he would give her to make up for the years she dedicated to him.
However, after signing the divorce agreement, Derek noticed Norah was doing pretty well. She was surrounded by several influential figures like Bryson from the Andrews family, Spencer from the Morris family, Kason and Kaiden from the Hayes family, and even Sean from the Scott family.
Moreover, Madeline had repeatedly told Derek how worried she was about their future, claiming they wouldn't be able to build their dream home if that large amount of money were to give away to Norah.
As a result of the financial constraints they stand to suffer if he gave the money to Norah, Derek decided to hold on to the money.
Besides, he didn't want to watch Norah use his money to hook up with other men. He was not that generous.
Now, Norah had transformed from a pushover into a formidable figure.
Through threats, she had managed to claim two-thirds of the Carter family's assets, leaving Derek in a shattered state.
Derek stared at Madeline's face. She was soundly asleep. Smiling softly, he caressed her face with his fingers. He told himself at least Madeline was still by his side. Even when things got tough for him, Madeline never even considered leaving him. She stood firm, her love for him unwavering, and eventually, she became pregnant.
The aspirations he held in his youth were on the brink of materializing, yet he carried a sense of disbelief within him.
At times, Derek would reminisce about the days when Norah cared for him, always obedient to his commands and never daring to resist. It made him believe that Norah still loved him, and that he also had some feelings for her.
Losing Norah intensified his longing for her. He missed her now more than he did when they were still together.
The second Derek realized the direction of his thoughts, he slapped his face to shake himself free from his thoughts. Norah was now Sean's woman! Right on the heels of that thought was guilt. How could he be missing Norah on the day he would officially register his marriage to Madeline? He must be going crazy.
"Madeline, my love, please wake up. Today is the day we're getting our marriage license." Derek gently pinched Madeline's nose, watching her stir awake. A wave of tenderness swept through him and at that moment, and he realized that his heart truly belonged to Madeline.
At the base of the Breaker.
Oscar couldn't help but think things were not going their way in recent times. Ever since he captured Norah, ominous things had happened to the Breaker. First, he and Riss were threatened by the Sacredice, which was followed by the destruction of their warehouse, heavy losses evident.
As if that was not enough, they lost their weapons and numerous fellows during the arms trade. On top of that, the website designed for the transaction went down, resulting in Oscar feeling utterly exhausted.
“Sir, I've got the information," a man announced gleefully as he ran in. He panted for breath, waving a file triumphantly in the air.
Oscar swiftly took hold of it and began to sift through its contents.
Two photos fell out of the file in his haste.
