Chapter: 948
“Mr. Newman, who is this? Is she your girlfriend? She looks even better than Hans' girlfriend."
Jarrod didn't let Norah get a word in and quickly said, "No, no, you're mistaken. Miss Wilson is Mr. Scott's girlfriend, and she prefers to keep a low profile. I just know her and stopped by to say hi. Let's move on and not bother her."
After they walked away, Norah's perception of Jarrod became slightly more positive. Jarrod understood the importance of maintaining the right distance.
Norah's beauty was captivating. Merely by standing there, she attracted numerous admiring looks and several people were keen to engage her in conversation.
Yolande made her way over and stood next to Norah, blocking anyone else from approaching.
Everyone was aware of Yolande's significant influence and avoided upsetting her.
It was rumored that Yolande had a fiery temper. Crossing her was like crossing the entire Boyd family, and that could have grave repercussions.
Even entire businesses could collapse after falling out with the Boyds.
This was no overstatement. There was a girl who bullied Yolande at school and ended up being forced to withdraw, her family brought to ruin by the Boyds. She eventually fled Silverdale, marked by disgrace but with a chance to rebuild her life.
Of course, Norah was unaware of all this. She saw Yolande as kind and thoughtful.
"You have another brother named Marlin Boyd, right?" Norah said as she made herself comfortable, bringing cakes and drinks to a table.
Yolande followed suit, sitting beside her. "Do you know Marlin?" she asked, curiosity piqued. “It's well-known he keeps women at arm's length. It's odd. I've never heard of him having a close female friend."
Was Norah Marlin's ex-girlfriend? Yolande wondered. Maybe he was still hung up on her, which was why he was so distant. But Norah already had a boyfriend!
Her face suddenly turned dark. “Were you two together before?" she asked, her voice trembling with apprehension.
Norah noticed Yolande's tendency to speculate wildly.
Taking a sip of her wine, she interrupted Yolande's musings.
"No. We weren't," Norah clarified.
“Okay, that's a relief. Are you a friend of Marlin then? Why haven't I seen you before?"
Yolande pressed, scrutinizing Norah. “You are so beautiful. I would have remembered you if I'd seen you.
Norah, eager to change the subject, asked, "Will he show up tonight?"
“Of course, he will," Yolande replied, her eyes wide with certainty.
"He has some business to attend to, so he'll be a bit late."
Just as she finished speaking, a commotion erupted at the door, filling the hall with screams and noise.
Yolande was accustomed to the commotion. “It must be Marlin. Do you want me to call him over?"
