Chapter: 121
Kaitlin choked down a bite of her food and scoffed, "Perhaps that's because he's too busy roaming around elsewhere. No doubt, he finds the food outside more appealing than what's served at home. You've really endured a lot, catering to such a difficult man. Once I've saved enough, you should come work for me instead."
In Alan's presence, Kaitlin brazenly attempted to lure the chef away.
The chef gave an awkward chuckle. "Mrs. Hewitt, I hope you're kidding. Whether I'm employed by you or Mr. Hewitt, I still serve the Hewitt family. It's essentially the same.”
Kaitlin sampled each dish, finding every bite to her liking.
After dabbing her lips with a napkin, she turned and clarified, “It's not quite the same. Alan and I got a divorce. If you were to work only for me, you'd be just next door."
It was evident Kaitlin wasn't dropping the subject of their divorce anytime soon, and the chef, beads of sweat forming on his forehead, looked desperately to Alan for some support.
Alan simply gestured dismissively. "Prepare some soup for Kaitlin."
"Right away, sir!"
Visibly relieved, the chef quickly retreated to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Kaitlin indulged in a glass of freshly squeezed juice, her pleasure almost vocal. "I'm satisfied. Thanks for the meal, and congrats on the new place."
With a casual burp, she strolled out, heading home.
By the time the chef returned with the soup, Kaitlin was nowhere in sight.
"Mr. Hewitt, where's Mrs. Hewitt?" he asked, confused.
"She's gone home. What took the soup so long?"
The chef frowned. "Maybe you should have it then, Mr. Hewitt."
Alan sighed. “Take it away."
The chef nodded and began to clean up.
"From here on out, you're stationed here. Be sure to provide breakfast, Lunch, and dinner for Kaitlin."
The chef paused, his expression one of surprise. “I'm not returning to your place?"
“No, I'll be staying here for the time being. If it's too much of a hassle, you're welcome to stay as well. Just ensure that Kaitlin receives your meals daily."
Alan continued, his tone more serious, “And since Kaitlin is pregnant, the food must be nutritious. Avoid anything too spicy or rich."
The chef jotted everything down, a spark of excitement in his eyes.
“Mrs. Hewitt is pregnant?"
"Yes,"
