Chapter: 129
"His so-called dead true love is back from the dead?" Kaitlin continued, exasperated.
"What do you think Alan's feelings are?" Phoebe pressed, eyes wide.
"He's the one who brought her back," Kaitlin responded dryly.
Phoebe fumed, “Unbelievable! That jerk. I warned you about getting back with him. But hey, you still have Quintin. He's always been faithful to you. Doesn't that warm your heart?"
Kaitlin dismissed the thought with a wave of her hand. “Forget about it. I'm almost due with my baby. Why involve him in this chaos?"
Exhaling deeply, she added, “I'm exhausted. Can I crash at your place for a few days? I can't stand the sight of Alan right now."
“Of course, you can stay," Phoebe assured her quickly. “But are you sure Alan won't come looking for you at the studio?"
With a snort, Kaitlin replied, “He's too preoccupied with his true love. Don't worry, he won't bother looking for me."
Noticing Kaitlin's somber expression, Phoebe swiftly shifted the conversation. “Hey, did you bring me a souvenir? I'll be really upset if you didn't!"
“How could I forget you?" Kaitlin smiled, her mood lifting. “I brought gifts not just for you, but for all the designers at the studio. You can distribute them tomorrow.”
“Wow, Kaitlin, that's incredibly generous of you. I love it!" Phoebe exclaimed, her playful teasing finally coaxing a smile from Kaitlin.
At the airport, Ashley trailed behind Alan to the car, settling into an uncomfortably silent atmosphere.
Images of Kaitlin storming away preoccupied Alan, leaving him oblivious to Ashley's intense scrutiny.
“Alan, do you think Kaitlin might have gotten the wrong idea about us?" Ashley's voice was soft, her eyes brimming with unshed tears.
Alan glanced at her reassuringly. "Don't worry about it, Ashley. Kaitlin's pregnant, which makes her more sensitive right now."
Ashley exhaled deeply, her apology laced with regret. "I'm sorry, Alan. It seems I've caused you trouble the moment I returned."
She had always pretended to be thoughtful, never burdening Alan, which deepened his affection for her.
Yet, this time, her charms seemed to have lost their effect on him.
“Look, I've arranged a place for you to stay. You'll start working at a company in Rozand," Alan said, disconnecting slightly.
Ashley's smile stiffened, her composure slipping.
Why would Alan send her to Rozand?
Wasn't there a subsidiary of Hewitt Group in Rozand? Would that mean seeing even less of Alan?
“Alan, I'd prefer to stay in Osewood, where I used to live. I worry I won't settle in well in Rozand," she said.
Alan considered this for a moment, then conceded, “Alright, you can stay in Osewood."
