Chapter: 15
From the sidelines, Kaitlin watched the exchange, her laughter tinged with bitterness.
“Why don't you both try out for a play? If you were really so devoted to that woman who passed away, Alan, you wouldn't be entangled with Lilliana now, would you?"
Alan's temper flared again at Kaitlin's taunts.
“What bullshit are you talking about? I won't let you smear Ashley's memory like that!" he huffed.
“Believe what you want. But can we settle the divorce now? I'm on a tight schedule here!" Kaitlin snapped, glancing at her watch with growing impatience.
Lilliana watched the two of them, her gaze flicking back and forth.
She needed them to divorce. It was the only way she could marry Alan.
“Alan, remember Ashley's dying wish was for you to find happiness. I think you should forgive Kaitlin, for Ashley's sake.”
Kaitlin bristled at Lilliana's words, her anger flaring anew.
She was a living being. How did her life relate to someone who had passed away?
"Shut your damn mouth, Lilliana. The decision to divorce is mine. I don't need your mock sympathy," she snapped.
As Kaitlin got worked up, Lilliana quietly moved to stand behind Alan.
"Alan, Kaitlin is so hostile... Did I say something wrong?"
"Don't worry, Lilliana. She's out of her mind. Just ignore her," Alan dismissed, still not budging on the divorce.
Seeing her chance, Lilliana added more fuel to the fire. "Kaitlin, looking Like Ashley was your Lucky break. Without that, how could you have ever become Alan's wife? You should be thankful!"
"Is that so? You must be dying to bear a resemblance to your sister. After all, you have got your eyes on her fiancé!"
"Enough!" Alan's fury resonated as his hand slammed down on the table.
“Kaitlin, you want a divorce? Very well, it shall be granted!"
Kaitlin responded with a dismissive snort, her voice icy. "You should have come to this conclusion sooner."
Confidently, she hoisted her suitcase and strode from the villa. The chauffeur, maintaining decorum, held the car door open for her.
Despite the impending divorce, she retained the dignity of Alan's wife until Legally stripped of the title.
Behind her, Lilliana hesitated but felt compelled to follow. The reality of the divorce needed to be witnessed to quell the turmoil within her.
Arriving at the courthouse, Kaitlin, suitcase still in hand, attracted curious stares.
Lilliana, embarrassed by the spectacle, pulled Alan aside, eager to distance herself from the scandalous scene. To the casual onlooker, she and Alan might have seemed poised for marriage.
