Chapter: 208
"You were once married to Ashley. How could she still dictate your actions?" Alan pressed.
“Mr. Hewitt, I'll spill everything. I was never really her husband. She paid me to pretend. I have kept all the payment receipts. You can check my phone," Owen pleaded.
Alan took Owen's phone with a serious look and started checking the transactions.
The amounts were significant, larger than what he imagined Ashley could manage.
"Do you have any other proof?"
Owen's expression contorted with desperation. "Mr. Hewitt, I'm being honest. Isn't that enough?"
"Continue," Alan instructed calmly, passing the phone to one of his associates. "Find out who's behind these transactions."
"Understood, Mr. Hewitt."
The sounds of Owen's screams and groans resumed in the basement.
Alan's face remained impassive as he departed, leaving behind the eerie quiet that settled once the door closed behind him.
He donned his jacket, his thoughts swirling, and drove to the hospital.
Kaitlin was awake, chatting with Phoebe about work matters.
Alan paused at the doorway, hesitant to enter.
The confusion of the previous night lingered, and he knew Kaitlin would have questions if she saw him.
It seemed wiser to wait until he had clear answers.
Alan asked the doctor about Kaitlin's condition and was reassured that she was physically well, which brought him some relief.
As he was leaving, he bumped into Phoebe, who was collecting some medication.
"Alan?" she murmured, her voice barely audible, before she returned to Kaitlin's room with the medicine.
"Kaitlin, I think I just saw Mr. Hewitt outside," Phoebe said.
Kaitlin's hand froze in mid-air as she reached for some fruit. She furrowed her brow. "He was here? Why didn't I see him?"
"I'm not sure. I saw him leaving as I went to pick up your medication. Maybe he didn't want to disturb you?" Phoebe said, though her face was marked with confusion.
Kaitlin's expression grew troubled. Owen had been captured by Alan's men the previous night. By now, Owen probably confessed everything.
Considering her own doubts from last night...
Kaitlin's anger flared. It was clear that Alan was avoiding her, likely to shield Ashley. "Phoebe, I want to leave the hospital," she declared.
