Chapter: 220
Phoebe, who had been out of the loop, perked up at this. When she caught what Shawn suggested, she couldn't hold back.
“Mr. Murphy, please don't trouble yourself. Kaitlin and I planned to leave together," she cut in.
The new alliance between their sides was still fresh, and they hardly knew Shawn. Leaving Kaitlin alone with him so late didn't sit right with Phoebe.
She quickly weighed her options and exchanged a glance with Kaitlin, seeking agreement.
One of Shawn's friends chimed in. "Shawn, as the host and since it's been ages since you last visited Osewood, you should stay a bit longer and reconnect with us.”
“It's getting late though, and Phoebe and I should be heading out.”
Kaitlin rose to her feet and offered Shawn a farewell.
Shawn merely nodded in polite acknowledgment, making no move to stop her.
As Kaitlin, Phoebe and Nora left, Shawn idly spun his champagne in the glass, his eyes twinkling with a mysterious light.
As she stepped outside, the chill of the night made Kaitlin shudder.
Phoebe threw her a look of pity. "I forgot your jacket. Stay inside while I fetch the car."
Kaitlin returned inside where it was warm and instantly felt better.
The wait dragged on, prompting Kaitlin to pull out her phone and scroll through her messages.
News of Oasis Jewelry's partnership with Shawn was buzzing in the industry, drawing envious murmurs from many other studios.
Some of the envy was less than subtle.
Kaitlin quietly snickered, taking a little pleasure in the envious comments.
Her attention lifted from her phone as a familiar silhouette appeared at the entrance.
Alan scanned the room curiously. "What are you doing here?" he asked.
Alan had brought Dylan along, clearly prepared for a meeting.
Their run-in was nothing more than a coincidence.
Kaitlin had no plans to greet him; she was still upset.
By the looks of the time, Phoebe would already have the car waiting at the door.
Without a moment's delay, Kaitlin pushed the door open and stepped out.
Alan didn't hesitate to follow her outside. Noticing her shivering, he quickly removed his jacket and placed it over Kaitlin's shoulders.
