Chapter: 231
“I can see Mr. Hewitt cares about you quite a bit, but..." Shawn trailed off.
He picked up the conversation but left his sentence unfinished. This made Kaitlin both curious and uneasy.
The cars ahead finally moved, prompting Kaitlin to press the gas pedal.
The topic ended there, and neither of them revisited it.
The rest of the journey unfolded smoothly, with green lights paving their way.
Upon reaching the Sky Tower, Kaitlin sighed in relief.
She had been fearing that the evening might start on the wrong foot and the dinner might follow suit.
However, it turned out nothing like that.
They enjoyed a pleasant dinner, engaging in light conversation and enjoying the stunning night view.
When it was time to settle the bill, Shawn, being the gentleman, reached for his black card and handed it to the waiter.
Kaitlin, however, gently intervened. "Mr. Murphy, you've been so helpful in this collaboration. Please, let me cover this," she insisted, offering her card to the waiter.
The waiter returned Shawn's card promptly, and Shawn accepted Kaitlin's gesture with a grateful nod.
As the waiter was about to process the payment, another black card appeared from the side.
“Charge it to mine," a man's voice interjected.
Startled, Kaitlin turned to see who it was. She saw Alan standing nearby, his presence previously unnoticed.
“Sir, are you taking care of the bill for this lady?" the waiter asked.
Alan nodded affirmatively, retrieved Kaitlin's card from the waiter, and leaned in to discreetly slide it back into her purse. "Keep your money," he murmured.
Shawn's gaze shifted between Alan and Kaitlin, and a light scoff escaped his lips.
Alan, paying him no heed, kept his eyes fixed on Kaitlin. “It's getting late. Let me drive you home," he said, taking her hand.
Kaitlin attempted to pull away, but Alan's grip was firm. She forced a smile and turned to Shawn. “Mr. Murphy, do you have a driver to take you home?" she asked politely.
After all, she had driven Shawn here and felt obligated not to leave him stranded.
Kaitlin was banking on Shawn's good nature not to embarrass her. But this time, she was mistaken.
"Kaitlin, aren't you going to drive me home?" Shawn asked, his tone feigning surprise.
Alan's expression turned frosty. "Mr. Murphy, don't you have a driver?" he interjected sharply.
