Shawn paused to sip his water, remaining silent.

Ashley's smile wavered as she sensed the difficulty in drawing him out.

Taking a deep breath, she laid her cards on the table. “I know you helped Owen escape. I'm here to understand your motives, and perhaps there's a way we can work together."

Shawn raised an eyebrow, his expression calm and unaffected.

"Miss Willis, are you suggesting we collaborate?"

"Exactly," Ashley replied.

Shawn chuckled softly. “And what makes you think you hold any cards here?"

Ashley shot a quick glance at the assistant, who seemed to be one of Shawn's confidants, believing that she didn't need to hide anything from him.

"If you choose not to work with me, I won't keep your secrets any longer. Imagine Kaitlin's reaction when she learns the truth. Will she look at you the same way?"

Shawn's eyes narrowed. “Is that a threat?"

"Mr. Murphy, let's not be so dramatic. It's common knowledge in Osewood how fond you are of Kaitlin. But remember, it's Mr. Hewitt who stands by her side." Ashley's tone carried a touch of challenge.

The surest way to unsettle a man was to compare him unfavorably to another.

“Just aiming for Kaitlin's favor through partnerships isn't going to suffice," she continued.

Shawn shot Ashley a frosty look, silently scorning her naivety.

He couldn't fathom how such a fool had once caught Alan's interest.

Foolish as she was, she dared to posture before him.

Shawn remained quiet, leading Ashley to believe he was hesitating.

She pushed further. “You're just a bit behind, that's all. With the right strategies and my help, we can accomplish much more with far less effort."

"Is that so? And what do you want in return?"

Ashley's lips curved into a smile, her ambition clear in her gaze.

"IT want Alan."

Shawn offered a knowing smile. “From my understanding, despite your past with him, Alan no longer has an interest in you."

Ashley wasn't fazed by this revelation. "It doesn't matter whether he likes me or not. If you lend me a hand, wouldn't we both benefit? As long as there's tension between Kaitlin and Alan, there's an opportunity for you."

Her nonchalant tone amused Shawn.
