Chapter: 273
She grabbed the juice from the table, paying no heed to Shawn's actions. "Mr. Murphy, shall we?"
Shawn, unfazed, relaxed his arm and walked beside her.
Together, they positioned themselves at the center of the reception hall and delivered a brief welcome speech.
Once they concluded, Alan could no longer stay put. He rose from his corner and made his way over to them.
Kaitlin was still mingling with several guests when Alan positioned himself quietly behind her, his presence a silent proclamation of their connection.
Previously, the Hewitt Group's press conference had stirred up considerable talk in Osewood. Their relationship was no secret.
As they stood side by side, playful banter ensued.
"Mr. Hewitt and Ms. Gilbert really do make a striking couple. Don't forget to send me an invite to your wedding."
"It's been ages since Osewood has seen such a joyous occasion."
“Mr. Hewitt certainly looks after Ms. Gilbert well, even showing up at a celebration just for her."
At these remarks, a softer expression crossed Alan's face.
Kaitlin forced a smile, returned a rough greeting, and swiftly steered the conversation toward work-related topics.
Alan didn't cut her off. He silently followed her lead, which sparked a wave of envy among the onlookers.
Shawn shot them a frosty look, noticing they were inseparable. His expression darkened considerably.
He hadn't anticipated Alan's audacity in showing up uninvited.
This forced Shawn to alter his plans.
"Mr. Murphy, everything's in place. Should we..." his assistant addressed him.
"Do it when Kaitlin is alone," Shawn instructed coldly.
“Understood, Mr. Murphy." The assistant quickly exited.
Meanwhile, Alan received a call related to his work.
Observing Kaitlin engaged in lively conversation, he stepped outside to take the call.
Seizing the moment, Shawn's assistant signaled discreetly to a woman nearby.
She gave a subtle nod, picked up a glass of wine, and started toward Kaitlin.
After mingling with a few more guests, Kaitlin realized Alan was no longer by her side.
