Chapter: 283
Holding her phone, Ashley retreated to a secluded corner to take the call.
“Mr. Murphy, please don't worry. I'm actively seeking a solution. This project involves confidential files and requires authorization," she said softly.
Shawn, growing impatient, tapped on the desk. "Miss Willis, if you were unable to handle this, you should have informed me sooner rather than wasting our time," he retorted, his voice chilling.
Ashley was struck silent and her expression soured. Despite this, she was determined not to lose Shawn's support and steeled herself to respond.
"Mr. Murphy, please, just a bit more time. I assure you, you'll have what you need," she promised.
“In that case, I'll be awaiting good news," Shawn responded brusquely, a hint of disbelief in his tone.
After ending the call, Ashley exhaled a deep breath of relief.
Since Alan had refused to give her access to the suburban project, she contemplated other options. Ultimately, she decided to reach out to Miguel.
Though Miguel's influence had waned, his status as a Hewitt family member lent weight to his words, at least more so than Ashley's could.
After changing into her evening attire, Ashley made her way to Miguel's villa.
Currently devoid of any real authority, Miguel had resigned himself to a quiet existence at this villa. His only other option was to keep Beth company at the Hewitt family's old house.
Having previously collaborated with Miguel, Ashley now sought his aid as a last resort.
She approached the villa's closed door, inhaled deeply, and pressed the doorbell.
Moments later, the door swung open. Only upon stepping inside did Ashley allow herself a brief sigh of relief.
Miguel, motivated primarily by self-interest, was an unpredictable ally. Ashley had half-expected him to refuse her visit, but thankfully, he didn't.
Inside, she found Miguel seated in a wheelchair, enjoying a drink.
With a practiced smile, Ashley approached him. "Miguel, long time no see," she greeted warmly.
Miguel merely looked up, offering no reply.
"Isn't it a bit lonely drinking by yourself?" She tried to infuse the air with lightness.
Without waiting for a response, she poured herself a glass.
Miguel's response was a derisive sneer. "Why are you here? You couldn't enjoy your life with Alan, so here you are again. What went wrong this time?" he observed, his tone harsh.
Ashley hesitated, then let out a resigned sigh. “Alan has been unfaithful. He's focusing solely on Kaitlin now and doesn't care about me," she admitted.
After a brief pause, she added, "I've realized the truth about Alan. He's not worthy of my trust. He simply can't compare to you."
Raising her glass, Ashley gently clinked it against Miguel's.
