Chapter: 30
Furious, she realized that within just a few days, she had lost not only ten million dollars but her reputation as well.
“Find out who Kay is! To challenge me is to challenge the Hewitt family. She will regret this!"
Her assistant, wary of her fury and still unsettled by their last unresolved issue, promptly agreed.
Kaitlin was deep into preparations for her first jewelry exhibition.
After working long hours, she wearily made her way home.
Upon arriving, she was taken aback to see a familiar car outside her building.
Emerging from the vehicle, Alan scanned her with a critical eye, clearly unhappy with her late return and elegant dress.
“Where have you been all this time? Why are you only getting home now?" he demanded, his voice edged with irritation from waiting over thirty minutes.
"This is none of your business," Kaitlin retorted, too drained for a confrontation. She brushed past him, making a beeline for her apartment.
"Stop right there. You haven't answered me," Alan insisted, blocking her path.
Kaitlin continued on, ignoring his demand.
They were no longer married. Why would she owe him any explanations or deference?
“Kaitlin, are you even hearing me?"
Alan's frustration mounted, and he stepped closer, seizing her arm without a hint of tenderness.
Kaitlin grimaced, pain flashing across her face. "Did you really come here at this hour just to pick a fight? I'm exhausted and not in the mood for this. Let go of my arm!"
With a forceful tug, she freed herself from his grasp.
The encounter with Alan was an unwelcome interruption, especially after her recent business success.
“What do you want now?" she snapped, her tone sharper with annoyance.
Alan's demeanor turned even chillier.
“Grandma wants to see you at home," he said curtly.
Kaitlin paused, taken aback. Beth had always shown her affection, and it seemed the family wasn't aware of their divorce.
Considering Beth's age, Kaitlin couldn't bear to let her down.
“Just a dinner, and I'll bring you back afterward. It won't take long," Alan said, his voice softer now.
Kaitlin hesitated but finally nodded and climbed into Alan's car, heading towards the Hewitt family's estate.
