Chapter: 311
“Find out who had the audacity to slander me in Estresa!" Denton was truly enraged, causing the mood in his office to shift sharply.
His assistant nodded, not wasting a moment, and quickly set out to uncover the truth.
Marcia refreshed the website, her expression livid. “What happened? Why is the news from yesterday gone?" she muttered under her breath.
Her anger surged, and in a moment of fury, she hurled her phone toward the assistant.
The assistant winced in pain, not daring to move.
"How could this have happened?" Marcia shouted.
“Marcia, everything seemed fine last night, but the news was suppressed this morning," the assistant explained calmly. "I've already inquired. Someone must have..."
“No one could act that quickly. Did you pay him enough?" Marcia cut her off as she slammed her hand on the table.
Her eyes narrowed suspiciously. "Or did you pocket the money yourself?"
The assistant looked up quickly and gestured in denial. “Marcia, I swear I didn't take it. Please, don't accuse me falsely," she pleaded.
“Everyone knows your family is struggling. If I hadn't given you a job, you'd be homeless. How can you not value my generosity and betray me?" Marcia's voice rose sharply.
Suddenly, she stood, pushing the assistant hard.
The assistant stumbled back a few steps, barely catching herself from falling. She remained silent and endured Marcia's tirade with her head bowed.
Unsatisfied, Marcia snatched a ruler from the desk and struck the assistant sharply.
"Loser!" she yelled, her anger unabated as she continued her assault.
The assistant dodged initially, but eventually, she stood still, absorbing the blows with a numb resignation.
Just then, a knock sounded at the door.
Marcia hastily threw the ruler aside, plastered on a smile, and opened the door.
Denton's assistant stood there, ready to relay some information.
"Hello, Marcia. The schedule for the second round of the competition has been set. Please make sure your work is ready by two o'clock this afternoon," he said.
“Don't worry. Please inform Mr. Gilbert that I'll do well this time,"
Marcia responded cheerily.
Denton's assistant offered her a flat look before his gaze drifted briefly to Marcia's assistant standing quietly behind her.
“Alright, I'll go now," he said, turning to leave.
