Chapter: 41
Both Kaitlin and Quintin were taken aback by the suggestion.
Quintin inhaled sharply, having never anticipated such a significant first encounter with his online friend.
Kaitlin, her mind reeling, made her way to the obstetrics and gynecology floor.
Following the ultrasound, the doctor delivered the news.
"Congratulations, you're pregnant."
Believing they were a couple, the doctor offered Quintin a warm smile.
"During the first trimester, it's common to experience early symptoms like nausea and dizziness. Don't be overly concerned. Indulge your cravings, and you'll manage just fine."
Kaitlin felt as if she had been hit by a bolt of lightning. After three childless years of marriage and a recent divorce, she was pregnant?
“Doctor, I'm not planning to keep the baby," she said.
The doctor's smile faltered, and she glanced at Quintin, sensing the complexity of their relationship. "The embryo is healthy. Are you certain you don't want to rethink your decision?"
"There's no need for reconsideration. I've already divorced the baby's father." Kaitlin's resolve was clear; continuing the pregnancy wasn't in anyone's best interest.
Taken aback, the doctor reviewed the test results once more and contemplated.
“However, your health isn't optimal. Terminating this pregnancy could impair your future fertility. We should conduct additional tests to be certain."
Kaitlin's eyes widened in shock; she couldn't believe the news. "Is there no other option?"
"Miss, I suggest you return home and ponder this. If you decide, you can return here to schedule the procedure," the doctor said.
With mixed feelings, Kaitlin exited the hospital, offering Quintin a sheepish smile. “I'm sorry. It's our first meeting, and you had to see this."
"It's fine. Remember, we got to know each other during one of your hardest moments."
Quintin offered a comforting smile. "I'm not here to judge. Don't worry."
Kaitlin chuckled, relieved to be in Quintin's company that day.
Anyone else might have intensified her embarrassment.
“Thanks for being here today," she said sincerely.
“Then why don't you treat me to a meal next time?" Quintin lightened the mood with his humor.
After the unsettling news regarding the baby, Kaitlin didn't linger with Quintin and headed home.
She settled on the couch, clutching the test results, staring at them for what seemed like forever.
