“Why did you fall asleep downstairs? You might catch a cold," Alan chided softly, sitting on the edge of the bed.

Kaitlin offered a sleepy smile. "I didn't realize you'd be back so late. I was dozing off."

"I'll get home earlier." Alan loosened his tie, feeling a wave of tiredness wash over him.

“What's been keeping you so busy lately? You've been coming home later and later. I'm almost due for the baby. What if I go into labor and you're not here?"

Alan paused, casting a nervous glance her way. "Have you felt any discomfort lately? I'll arrange for Dr. Pierce to visit us tomorrow."
