Chapter: 80
"What about dinner?" Alan pressed.

Kaitlin's expression darkened. "I just saw Beth not too long ago. When are you planning on telling her about the divorce? Are you going to keep it a secret forever?"

Beth had always been kind, but they were no longer family.

The charade of playing the happy couple for meal after meal was wearing thin.

“Kaitlin, Grandma's health isn't great. You're suggesting I tell her now? What if it makes her condition worse?"

Kaitlin rolled her eyes, exasperated. "So, we're supposed to wait until she's gone? That's absurd. Do you really think we can keep this under wraps indefinitely?"

Alan was caught off guard, his voice tinged with desperation. "If we remarry, it'll be as if the divorce never happened."

"That's easy for you to say," Kaitlin retorted, her frustration palpable. She felt as if she were talking to a wall.

Alan's voice softened as he tried to calm the situation.

"Kaitlin, I know I've made mistakes before. Could you forgive me just this once? I swear, I won't ever treat you Like that again."

“And what about Ashley? Wasn't she the one you truly loved? Can you honestly say you'll never think of her, not even for a moment?"

Kaitlin's words struck Alan hard. If he hoped for forgiveness, he needed to address the underlying issue.

Alan fell silent, searching for the right words.

"Lost for words, huh? I'm not interested in competing with a memory for your affection. If you can't let her go completely, then forget about us getting back together or any talk of forgiveness." Kaitlin took a deep breath, striving to find some calm.

“Ashley's gone. Why can't you be more understanding? She's not here to challenge you," he said.

Mentioning Ashley always stirred a whirlwind of emotions in Alan, but today, he appeared unusually composed in Kaitlin's eyes.

Kaitlin let out a scornful chuckle, masking her disappointment. "If that's really the case, then please, stop coming around. Rekindling our relationship is definitely not an option!"

After a heavy silence, Alan finally walked out of the studio.

Kaitlin collapsed into her chair, her suspicions confirmed that she was still no match for his true love.

The grand opening of Yvette's first jewelry showcase officially commenced, with Kaitlin gracing the event alongside Quintin.

Quintin, aligning their appearances, opted for a crisp white suit that complemented Kaitlin's elegant white dress, casting them as a striking pair.

“Take my arm," Quintin murmured, leaning in to offer a quiet suggestion. “It'll keep the other suitors at bay tonight, especially your ex-husband."

Without hesitation, Kaitlin accepted, looping her arm through his. As they navigated the crowd, Yvette approached, her presence underscored by a vivid red dress that drew all eyes to her.

"Ms. Gilbert, delightful to see you again. And this gentleman is..."
