The dinner party followed the jewelry show. It was a lively affair in full swing.

Crystal chandeliers threw warm light over the room, catching the shimmer of gowns and tuxedos, and the soft murmur of voices mingled with the clinking of glasses. Kaitlin and Janey had wrapped up their work and they slipped into the vibrant atmosphere alongside their colleagues.

Kaitlin, scanning the room, was relieved when she didn't spot Booker anywhere.

"I didn't expect Booker to be so sensible. He actually left," she murmured to Alan.

Alan also leaned in slightly and chuckled. "If he hadn't gone, you know I would've had someone escort him out. It's for the best he left on his own."
