Chapter: 1002
Aimee hesitated, her brow furrowing as she replied, “Are you at the hospital too?"
Her question carried a subtle accusation. If he was asking, it meant the car hadn't been borrowed - it was his own presence that had brought him here.
"Well," Nikolas explained, “a friend of mine is unwell. I came to have a look."
“Nikolas, didn't you say you were swamped at work?" Aimee's tone was tinged with annoyance.
She had refrained from asking him to join her, not wanting to interfere with his job, only to discover he had come to the hospital for someone else.
"Don't be upset. I'll be heading back soon!"
"Is your friend a man or a woman?" Aimee's voice was sharp, and then she scoffed, "Let me guess - a woman?"
Aimee wasn't omnipotent, but she couldn't see why Nikolas would hide something from her if he was just accompanying a male friend to the hospital.
Nikolas was the kind of person who would inform her even if he was just going to the bathroom. But today, he had gone to the hospital without telling her, and even lost contact with her for a while just now.
The only explanation was that he had gone to the hospital with a woman.
But which woman?
She suddenly frowned and asked, "Are you with your ex-girlfriend?"
"No, of course not!" Nikolas instantly denied it without hesitation.
Worried he might say something to give himself away, he quickly added, "I'll go back at the company soon. I'll explain everything when I get home in the evening! I have to go now. Bye!"
"Hey, wait..."
Realizing that Nikolas had disconnected the call, Aimee stared at the phone screen in frustration.
Just then, Victoria came over and said, "Aimee, what are you waiting for? Come and help me persuade Jayson!"
“Okay, I'm coming!"
In the hospital, Nikolas caught sight of the little girl.
She was over a year old, but she was small, thin, and pale, lying quietly as she slept.
Not daring to look at her for a moment longer, Nikolas hurriedly stepped out of the ward.
Siena's eyes were swollen from tears, and she could barely catch her breath.
“How much do you need for her treatment?" Nikolas asked in a low voice without looking at her.
"Not much... But I'm afraid that she won't survive..."
