Chapter: 1009
The water continued to flow, unabated. After a tense pause, Jonathan's voice cut through.

"It has nothing to do with me. I don't need your explanation."

Bethany was left speechless.

Jonathan's dismissive tone stung her.

"If you won't listen, then never mind."

She decided not to press further.

Reaching the bed, Bethany tucked her phone under the pillow and closed her eyes, determined to sleep.

She doubted she could sleep after such a tumultuous day. Yet, the day's events had drained her completely. Soothed by the sound of water running in the bathroom, Bethany quickly fell asleep.

Jonathan emerged to find Bethany already asleep.

He approached the bedside, pausing to observe her for a long moment before waving his hand in front of her face.

She remained still.

After making sure that she was truly asleep, Jonathan looked around.

Where had Bethany placed her phone?

Perhaps because she had gone to bed early, Bethany found herself waking up before sunrise, a rarity given Jonathan's usual early starts.

Bethany gently lifted herself on her elbows and gazed at Jonathan's peaceful, sleeping face.

In sleep, his usual harshness softened. His tousled hair lent him a youthful look, reminiscent of a vibrant young athlete shining on the basketball court, even years after graduation.

Moved to capture the moment, Bethany instinctively reached for her phone to snap a photo of him asleep.

But her phone was nowhere to be found under the pillow.

She distinctly remembered placing it under the pillow before falling asleep!

Bethany shifted the pillow aside, yet her phone remained missing.

Her movements roused Jonathan.

Catching his gaze, she met his dark, sleepy eyes.

“What are you looking for?" His voice was groggy yet soothing.

“I can't find my phone.”
