Chapter: 109
"Mr. Watson, thank you so much!"

Jayson laughed and raised an eyebrow. “Are you planning to call me Mr. Watson in front of your mother too?"

Bethany hadn't considered that point, and she was taken aback when she heard it.

“Just call me Jayson. That's what my family calls me," Jayson suggested.

Bethany nodded. Although a bit embarrassed, she knew she had no other choice. The most pressing matter now was ensuring her mother underwent the surgery.

Only when she climbed into Jayson's car that Bethany noticed how thoroughly he had prepared.

The back seat was laden with fruits and several boxes of pricey tonics. He had clearly spent quite a bit.

Bethany discreetly pulled out her phone to check her bank account.

She wondered if the few thousand dollars would suffice to reimburse him.

Noticing her worry, Jayson smiled and explained, “Aimee told me you were swamped with work and hadn't had time to shop, so I picked up some gifts for your mother. I couldn't show up empty-handed. She might not believe I'm your husband otherwise."

His thoughtfulness made Bethany feel even more indebted. "You've already given so much of your time, and now this. I really appreciate it. What did it all cost? I'll give the money to you."

"No, it didn't cost much. I'm here on Aimee's behalf. She would have done this herself."

“still, I insist you take the money." Bethany's tone was firm and a bit formal, but she hated being in debt to anyone.

Whether it was money or a favor, she always felt to settle it.

"Do you think a real couple would behave like this? If we keep up such formality, your mother might get suspicious." Understanding Bethany's nature, Jayson comforted her. "How about this? Just think of me as your husband for now, and you can pay me back after your mother has the surgery."

Bethany looked at Jayson and managed a smile.

She knew he was right, but pretending to be in a loving relationship with him was still uncomfortable.

They soon reached the hospital. Just before they went in, Marie called Bethany.

"We're downstairs. We'll be up in a moment."

After ending the call, Bethany looked at Jayson with worry. “Mr. Watson, you need to be ready. My mother is quite upset about this situation, and she might overreact."

"Don't worry. Aimee has filled me in," he reassured her, placing his hand on her shoulder with a comforting smile. “I'll start calling you Bethany once we're inside. Remember to call me Jayson.”

The unexpected touch made Bethany feel a bit uneasy.

Yet, they had only this one shot. If her mother suspected he was just pretending to be her husband, the situation could escalate. So, she had to make their act convincing today.

She nodded and shut her eyes for a moment, mentally preparing herself to embrace his closeness.
