Chapter: 1119
Determined to soldier on until she could purchase some after work, she endured the discomfort. Just then, a knock reverberated through her office.
Looking up, she saw Jonathan's assistant standing there with a discreet air.
“Ms. Holt, Mr. Bates asked me to give you this," the assistant said, holding out a small bottle. “He also requested that I not reveal his involvement, but it seemed a bit obvious. So here you are.”
Bethany glanced at the bottle of stomach medicine with a mix of relief and curiosity.
"How did he know..." Bethany began.
"I'm not sure. I'll see you later."
The assistant hastened his steps away. As he reached the door, a thought seemed to strike him. He paused, turned back to Bethany, and whispered, "Please don't tell Mr. Bates I shared the truth with you. He might think I'm not up to the job."
Bethany was left speechless.
She watched the assistant depart, then retrieved two pills from a bottle and swallowed them.
They left a bitter taste in her mouth, and it wasn't just from the pills.
Since Aimee had become pregnant, she had felt constantly drowsy, but this time when she awoke, she was hit with waves of nausea.
It was still early morning, a time for deep sleep, yet she found herself rushing to the bathroom to vomit.
“I've called a doctor for you! Aimee, please open the door!"
The bathroom door was locked, and Nikolas could do nothing but knock persistently.
When Aimee didn't respond, he was about to force the door open, but just then, Aimee emerged, clutching her chest, her face ghostly pale.
“Why did you call a doctor? It's only morning sickness," she said, her voice weak but filled with a touch of annoyance.
Morning sickness was common in pregnancy. He had to know that.
Nikolas continued to frown. "You don't look well. Have the doctor take a look at you! Can't morning sickness be managed somehow? I'1L ask her to prescribe you something."
Aimee was at a loss for words.
She chose not to lecture Nikolas and simply exited the room.
The OBGYN was already waiting in the living room. Upon seeing Aimee, she promptly inquired, “Your morning sickness appears to be quite severe, What did you eat this morning?"
“Nothing. I was still asleep when I suddenly started feeling very unwell."
“Miss Bates, morning sickness is a common symptom during pregnancy, though it's not particularly treatable. Eating sour foods might help alleviate it, but its effectiveness varies with each person's health."
Aimee nodded in understanding. "I'm okay, really."
