Bethany was surprised to hear she'd be on another business trip.

After all, the Creation Group project was crucial-Bates Group's big initiative this year. How could she be involved in something so important?

She had thought that once her relationship with Jonathan reached a standstill, the favoritism she enjoyed at headquarters might fade away.

"I know your mom's surgery is scheduled. We're leaving Monday for the business trip. What's your thought on it?" Brody asked, showing empathy, though the decision was already made.

“No problem. I'm just not sure if I'll be credited on the project,"

Bethany responded, hoping to gain something from the trip.

While it was a rare opportunity to gain experience, getting recognition from the company could greatly enhance her resume.

"I'm not sure. Mr. Bates will decide that," Brody reassured her.

"I'll talk to him about it"

"No, I'm fine," Bethany replied quietly. Lately, facing Jonathan had become daunting for her.

"What's holding you back?" Brody asked, puzzled by Bethany's reluctance. "Once Mr. Bates lands in Canbidge, I'll arrange for you to pick him up alone. It's your chance to impress him. If you do well, he might agree to include your name on the project."

Bethany had contributed significantly, so it seemed only fair her name be acknowledged. But without Jonathan's approval, no one dared to make that decision.

"Wait, what? Jonathan's heading to Canbidge after his trip?" Bethany exclaimed in surprise, realizing she had used his first name inadvertently.

"Remember to refer to him as Mr. Bates at the office," Brody reminded her.

“My apologies, please. I assumed Mr. Bates would return to the office."

“The initial arrangement was for him to return from Watimere and head straight to Canbidge," Brody explained.

But Bethany hadn't been factored into that arrangement.

Brody gave her an encouraging nod. "So, now's your chance to step up."

"Okay..."

As Brody walked away, Bethany's mind raced to process what he had just revealed.

What did he mean?

Had he really arranged for her to be at the airport to pick Jonathan up?

The evening before Marie's surgery, Bethany chose not to stay at Aimee's apartment but to be with Marie in the hospital.

She understood that despite Marie's brave front, deep down, she must be scared. After all, surgery was no small matter.
