Chapter: 139
When she was single, all she had to worry about were her basic needs and her job. Her emotional state wasn't tied to someone else's actions.
That feeling was dreadful.
It felt even worse than pulling a week of overtime.
Marie sighed deeply and said, "Bethany, I realize I shouldn't instill such fear of marriage in you. But I worry so much about you even though you're married. I think all men cheat."
Bethany's father had been gentle and caring in the beginning, which led Marie to marry him without considering an exit strategy.
"Mom, don't dwell on that now. You have surgery tomorrow. It's best if you go to bed early." Bethany ensured her mother was comfortable.
"The surgery is all that matters right now."
Bethany had longed for this day for so Long.
After getting her mother to sleep, excitement kept Bethany wide awake.
She got up and opened her laptop to organize some documents for Bates Group, but her gaze inadvertently fell on Jonathan's online status.
He was still logged in.
Jonathan, as a CEO, was always meticulous about his responsibilities.
Bethany caught herself staring pointlessly at the screen.
She looked away quickly, unable to shake Jonathan's image from her mind, losing all drive to work. She shut the laptop and forced herself to try and sleep.
After what felt like forever, she finally drifted into a light sleep, vaguely aware of someone calling her name.
When she opened her eyes, she was startled to see Marie dressed and sitting up in bed, with Jayson and his parents nearby.
"You're awake. Were you up late working again last night? You're always so diligent."
Marie's words snapped Bethany back to reality, and she quickly sat up and said, “Why are you all here?"
Jayson shot her a reassuring look.
Marie answered without hesitation, "I asked them to come. I didn't want you to wait alone outside the surgery room. Having Jayson and his family here makes me feel at ease."
“Yes, Bethany, we're here for you!" Jayson's mother said warmly.
Despite only meeting Bethany for the second time, she seemed genuinely fond of Bethany, even taking her hand.
Seeing this, Marie felt her plan had succeeded.
She was determined to secure her daughter's place in the family again and again. She needed to ensure the Watson family that if they didn't treat her daughter right, she wouldn't let it slide easily.
