"Look, Mom cooked dinner! Join us at the table, Dad!" Rowan tugged at Jonathan's arm, leading him to the table.

Smiling, Jonathan glanced at Bethany.

For reasons Bethany couldn't quite explain, turning him away felt impossible. Every glance Jonathan gave seemed to ask for her approval, and in front of the kids, she just couldn't bring herself to deny him.

Bethany had no option but to relent. Stepping aside, she said, "I'll get another set of silverware."
