Chapter: 185
After a moment, he said, "Once this is over, I'll arrange for you to transfer to a different branch."
Bethany's back straightened. She raised her tear-stained eyes and said, “Even if I prove my innocence, I still have to move to a branch office?"
She had poured her heart into reaching the headquarters, always hardworking and dedicated. Now, just because of someone's plot, she, the wronged party, was supposed to sidestep Maddie?
“You've always aspired to be an investment director. At a branch, you could lead a team."
"Jonathan," Bethany cut him off. "I don't need you to arrange anything for me. Our agreement doesn't require that I stay at Bates Group."
He frowned, and his grip on her hand grew tighter. "You want to resign?"
"I'm not thinking about that right now, not now. I've done nothing wrong. If I leave now, it would seem Like I'm admitting guilt.”
She resolved that she would go to the main office to work as usual tomorrow. She would ignore Jonathan's advice to take a break.
Jonathan understood Bethany's tenacity. The more fixated she became, the more resistant she was to listening to reason.
He sighed. “Let's grab some food first. You probably skipped breakfast, and that's going to hurt your stomach."
With that, he restarted the car.
Bethany wiped away her tears. "I'm not hungry. I want to get out!"
"The contract doesn't require you to work continuously at Bates Group, but it does stipulate that you must be available when I call upon you," Jonathan explained, feeling compelled to remind her of their agreement.
Bethany retorted, "The contract doesn't cover meal times!"
"Then come with me to East Shade Bay and fulfill my needs."
Bethany was taken aback by his remark. “Let's just have something to eat."
At the legal department of Bates Group...
After completing a document, Maddie noticed a new notification for an investigation on the company app.
She smirked before opening it.
The notice declared that due to Bethany's accusations of Maddie framing her, Maddie was temporarily removed from the Zucron Company project pending the outcome of the investigation.
Then, there was a knock at the door.
"Come in." Maddie looked up to find Nikolas entering.
The significant incident hadn't gone unnoticed by him. He had come after finishing his tasks.
"Jonathan has issued an internal investigation notice. Isn't that a direct challenge to you? It suggests he's questioning your integrity."
