Bethany approached them with a smile. "Weren't you supposed to return late tonight?"

“I didn't have any urgent matters, so I came back early," Jonathan said, carefully skipping any mention of Samira's disappearance. He simply didn't want to worry Bethany.

“Okay." Bethany sensed there might be more to the story, but seeing that Jonathan didn't seem eager to discuss it, she chose to drop the subject.
