"Jayson made his choice. We should honor it!"
“Honor what? My only son has been taken from me, and you speak of honor? It's her fault! What did she give you for her to defend her like this?" Kelley, Jayson's mother, bellowed. Her grief had clouded her judgment completely. If not for someone restraining her, she might have lunged at Bethany. “It's all because of you, Bethany! You're the reason my son is dead!"
Bethany faced the harsh accusations without a word in her own defense.
She continued forward until she was standing in front of Kelley. And then, in front of everyone, she knelt down.
Behind her, Jonathan's expression tightened with concern. He instinctively stepped forward but remembered his promise to Bethany.
