Bethany rarely suggested outings herself, so Jonathan naturally agreed right away.

"I haven't seen Aimee in a few days either. But if you're swamped with work, I could go on my own!" She knew that Jonathan had been pulling late nights to handle his workload at home, all to stay close by her side. Tasks were piling up, yet he waited until she fell asleep before sneaking off to work overtime.

She hadn't caught on until one night she'd woken to find his side of the bed empty.

"I'll come with you," Jonathan replied, his tone resolute. He wouldn't dream of letting her out of his sight. “Besides, I need to have a word with Nikolas myself."
