Chapter: 1999

When he arrived, the ambulance still hadn't shown up.

"Bethany!" He ran to her, dropping down to cradle her, his arms wrapping around her like a lifeline. "Are you okay? Does it still hurt?"

Bethany nodded, visibly shaken in a way he'd never seen before.

Normally composed and unshakable, she was now trembling, her voice small and uncertain. "I was pushed. I hit the wall, and that's when the pain started. I was too scared to even try moving."

Part of her knew she should have gone to the restroom to check for any signs of bleeding, but terror had paralyzed her.
