Chapter: 204
After a lengthy silence of nearly ten minutes, Bethany addressed the issue directly.

"Honestly, that night doesn't mean much, and even if we end the contract, I won't tell anyone about this."

Jonathan looked puzzled and said, "What?"

"Ahem." Bethany averted her gaze, feeling a bit embarrassed. “I mean, if you feel obligated to me because that night was my first time, and you think you need to take responsibility, you really don't have to. I understand you were drunk and it was unintentional. I'm not going to hold it against you."

After she spoke, she couldn't bring herself to look at Jonathan's reaction.

A moment later, she heard Jonathan's voice, slightly raspy.

“You know, the notion that men lose control when drunk is just a lie."

Bethany was at a loss for words.

“If I had truly been drunk, I wouldn't have been able to respond."

Bethany mulled over the words for a moment before their meaning dawned on her.

"So you weren't drunk that night?" she asked.

Jonathan was both exasperated and amused by her puzzled reaction.

Wasn't his behavior obvious enough? Could she really not see his intentions?

“Yes, I was completely sober when I knocked on your door that night."

"But don't you have someone else you're interested in?" Bethany asked, her voice trembling slightly.

She recalled the interview clip Aimee had shown her, where Jonathan admitted to having a woman who had won his heart.

“Couldn't that person be you?"

At this, Bethany was visibly startled.

What was Jonathan suggesting? Was he declaring his feelings for her?

“From the moment I received your message, knocked on your door, and proposed a marriage contract, everything was planned.”

He had noticed Bethany during a business trip and had been considering how to connect with her.

After receiving her message, he had suspected she might have been under the influence, but despite the moral considerations, he chose to proceed after a moment of hesitation.

Jonathan rarely talked about his earlier hesitations; now, with perfect timing and circumstances that seemed fated, he saw no reason to delay.

Perhaps initiating a romantic approach and then securing a deeper commitment seemed like the most effective strategy.
