Chapter: 208
What could it be?
Suddenly, Bethany thought of Maddie.
Now that Maddie had returned to Odonset, perhaps her mother had returned too. It must have been Maddie's mother who passed the note to Marie, falsely claiming that Bethany had become someone's mistress to cover her medical expenses.
Bethany quickly located Maddie's phone number. Just as she was about to make the call, she saw her mother returning to the ward.
"Mom!" she exclaimed, hurrying towards Marie.
Marie looked unsettled. She gazed blankly at her daughter and, after a long silence, asked, “Did they mistreat you?"
“Who told you that? No! They're just trying to upset you, make you worry, and worsen your heart condition!"
But Marie looked at Bethany stubbornly and then pulled out a video.
Bethany's heart dropped when she saw it.
The video displayed Bethany's colleagues at the company spreading rumors about her. Someone had filmed this and sent it to her mother.
"Don't Listen to them. It doesn't bother me. The truth will come out," said Bethany.
"Did that mistress and her daughter orchestrate this?"
"No, it's just typical workplace tension."
“Bethany, I've seen that woman," Marie abruptly said. “I've met her daughter too."
Bethany was taken aback.
“I knew something was off when you asked me about them. Don't keep secrets from me." Marie had ventured out to see who Maddie was and to confirm if she was indeed the daughter of that mistress.
Marie was confirmed the first time she laid eyes on Maddie.
Bethany felt a headache emerging and guided her mother back to bed.
"Mom, no matter what happened, don't let it get to you. Just act as if you didn't see anything. I can manage this on my own."
"They harassed me before, and now they're targeting my daughter. If I just put up with it, I'm not fit to be your mother!" Marie paused, then looked up at her daughter. "Bethany, can you reach out to a well-known TV station? I've decided to go public with what they've done!"
"Mom, please stay calm. I've taken a DNA test. Once the results are in, we'll have the evidence we need to clarify everything. Without it, Maddie could easily twist things against us and take legal action if we make claims without proof."
Given that Maddie was a lawyer, it was crucial to have solid evidence for any claims they made.
“Okay! I will testify for you then," Marie said, taking Bethany's hand and giving it a reassuring pat. “It's tough on you, getting caught up in the disputes of our generation."
"Mom, as long as you're okay, I can handle anything."
